Dr. Jason M. Hartman is a native of Berks County, graduating fifth in his class from Muhlenberg High School while earning 11 varsity sports letters and earning awards on the county, district, state, and All-America levels. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While at Muhlenberg College, Dr. Hartman was named to the Division III, Region 2 Academic All-America Football Team and was a founding member of the Theta Chi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. After college, he worked as an analytical chemist for Johnson & Johnson, testing many of the products that are on pharmacy shelves today, including Tylenol, Motrin and Immodium. During that year as a chemist, Dr. Hartman decided his desire to help others boost their self-esteem and confidence by improving their smile was his calling to dentistry.
Dr. Hartman then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, receiving his D.M.D. degree and graduating near the top of his class. At Penn, he received several awards, including the University of Pennsylvania Achievement Award for excellent performance on the National Dental Board Examination. He then completed a one-year general practice residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. It was during this year that Dr. Hartman discovered his passion for orthodontics. He then spent an additional three years attending the prestigious Columbia University in New York City to specialize in orthodontics, receiving both a certificate in orthodontics, as well as a master’s degree for his cutting edge research in the field. Dr. Hartman spent an additional two years in New York working as an orthodontist, enhancing the smiles of many adults and children, and even a few children of celebrities.
An esteemed member of the orthodontic community, Dr. Hartman has passed the rigorous examinations required to become a Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is among a small percentage of orthodontists in the United States to earn this degree of recognized excellence in his specialty. Additionally, Dr. Hartman has had his work published in the Middle Atlantic Society of Orthodontists Journal (Autumn, 2010) and is currently writing two articles based on his research for peer-reviewed orthodontic journals. In November 2009, Dr. Hartman was invited to present his work at the Northeastern Society of Orthodontists’ annual meeting in New York City, showcasing his Board cases and completed treatment to other orthodontists and staff. Furthermore, he is on-staff at Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he volunteers his time and services, teaching orthodontics to the dental residents. In 2012, Dr. Hartman was honored locally by the dental residents as "Teacher of the Year" at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg Dental Department. He was also honored on the national level in 2012, being named as one of America's "Top 40 Dentists Under Age 40" by Incisal Edge Magazine, a nationally distributed publication.
When not at work, Dr. Hartman enjoys giving back to the community by participating in charity events for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, the American Cancer Society, and the Lehigh Valley Speaks Autism Society. He recently founded the Hartman Scholarship fund, providing merit-based scholarships to local high school seniors attending college after high school. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, skiing, and training for various distance triathlon events, his longest being a half-Ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run). Dr. Hartman is also a diehard Philadelphia sports fan, cheering on the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers and Union.
Believing life-long learning is the key to personal and professional growth, Dr. Hartman attends many continuing education courses each year to ensure that his patients continue to receive the most state-of-the-art care. He treats all his patients as if they were members of his family and is committed to providing the very best in orthodontic care to his patients.
